Final Farewell

Vatican City Clergy members leave after the funeral mass for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI at St. Peter’s Square on January 5. Benedict was the first pope in 600 years to resign. The current pope, Pope Francis, led the funeral, marking the end of a unique decade when two popes coexisted. A scroll put into the casket said he “fought against crimes committed by members of the clergy against minors or vulnerable persons.”
