School’s Out

San Juan, Puerto Rico Thousands of teachers, firefighters and other public-sector workers march to the governor’s mansion on February 9 to demand higher wages and improved pensions. The protest follows a walkout of 70 percent of the territory’s school teachers angry that the base salary hasn’t changed in 13 years. Governor Pedro Pierluisi has, however, announced a temporary $1,000 monthly salary increase for educators via funds from the U.S. Department of Education.
