Night Terror

Batemans Bay, Australia Members of New South Wales’ Rural Fire Service—the world’s largest volunteer firefighting agency—work through the night to prevent flames from crossing a highway between two towns on January 2. Bushfires have ravaged the country for months, but the situation dramatically escalated over the Christmas break. Since the fire season began, more than 24 million acres have been burned and at least 24 people have died.
