Wife Threatening To Divorce Grieving Husband for Holding Ex's Hand Dragged

Reddit users were disgusted when one poster turned to the internet for advice after her son's funeral led to an argument between her ex and his new wife.

The post titled: "AITA for holding my ex-husband's hand at our son's funeral?" has received a sea of support and 21,000 upvotes.

The 33-year-old woman wrote: "In the midst of our grief, we found comfort in each other's presence and shared memories."

She explained that holding her 35-year-old ex's hand for support felt natural but his current wife, 34, thought it was "inappropriate."

Newsweek reached out to Georgina Sturmer, a U.K.-based counselor who helps women through challenges that include relationships, trauma and loss.

"There really is no roadmap for grief. And when we have experienced a loss, we might find ourselves seeking comfort in new or different ways. It's so important to allow ourselves to tune into what we need, when we are trying to figure out how to cope with what's just happened," Sturmer told Newsweek.

"And to remember that comfort comes in many different forms. Some of us might crave company or physical touch or familiarity. While others might long for solitude or a break from the norm. These feelings are all as valid as each other, even if they might surprise us or those around us."

Speaking about the post shared by u/throwawayyy6178, she said: "An act—like holding our ex-husband's hand—that might feel ordinarily feel unusual, can clearly be seen as a natural and instinctive response."

In the comment section, the woman explained that she and her ex "fell out of love" and then filed for a divorce. A year later, he met his current wife, who now believes they still have feelings for one another.

The grieving mother wrote: "I found out this morning that she's threatening divorce and thinks we're still in love with one another and that this loss is gonna magically bring us back together. I just wanna grieve without her drama."

At the time of writing, the post has received over 3,000 comments since it was shared on May 5.

One comment with 8,500 votes said: "NTA. This was your son's funeral."

"NTA. You two had a son together, who has passed away. Even if you're divorced, that bond doesn't change. It doesn't sound like you were trying to woo your husband at your child's funeral. How can she even think that way? Like someone else said, she's making a tragic loss, no parent should have to bury their child, about her. Says a lot about her disgusting character. I'm sorry for your loss. You did nothing wrong," said another user.

"NTA For holding someone's hand during a funeral. Holding someone's hand is not cheating. For making a funeral about her, your husband's new wife is next level of the a******," said a third commenter.
