Former Pro Bowl Wide Receiver Attempting NFL Comeback in Unique Way

The NFL gives an annual award out to a singular player every year that expresses a massive comeback which is aptly titled the Comeback Player of the Year. Current Indianapolis Colts quarterback Joe Flacco won the award for the 2023 season, after being signed in November by the Cleveland Browns and helping lead the team to the playoffs.

Comebacks like this don't happen often, but there could be one brewing in the 2024 season. Former Pro Bowl receiver Jarvis Landry is attempting his own comeback, but he is doing so in a very unique way. Instead of simply working out for a team, Landry will be joining the rookie camp for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Landry spoke about his choice to make a comeback after missing the entire 2023 season, and how he hopes that he can shake off the last two seasons, which were the worst of his nine-year career. He spoke about this unique situation on the Rich Eisen Show.

Landry stated, "It definitely was a rollercoaster of a time. I know the last two seasons that I played hasn't went ideally for me. Being that injured in Cleveland, injured in New Orleans, last year just trying to make sure I get my legs back under me. To be able to walk into an opportunity this year, like going out to get healthy, working with doctors, and getting support from the people I trust dearly. Switching agents in the middle of all this..."

Landry goes into depth about the journey that he has been on since being injured with his past two teams, along with making steep changes in his professional and personal life that have allowed him the ability to get a chance in the NFL again. Despite only missing the 2023 season, the injuries and poor production would be a warning to many teams that he may have reached out to previously.

Landry is a nine-year veteran, who was initially drafted out of LSU by the Miami Dolphins in 2014. After a rookie year that resulted in him securing 758 yards and 5 touchdowns, he would go on to secure 1,000-plus yards the next two seasons.

Landry would become one of the best slot receivers in the game, but would eventually be traded to the Browns before the 2017 season began. He still managed to become a solid receiver for Cleveland, once again eclipsing 1,000 yards in the 2019 season.

After that, Landry's production began to take a hit, likely due to the injuries he spoke about in the above interview. He has spent the 2023 season getting his mind and body right to make a comeback.

It's not guaranteed that Landry will be able to outpace his younger counterparts, but if he is truly healthy, he could likely be seeing a one-year contract from the Jaguars, or another team, in his immediate future.
