A child was fatally shot in Seattle on Wednesday, police said.

Officers from the Seattle Police Department responded to a shooting in the city's Magnolia neighborhood at approximately 6:30 p.m. The young victim was pronounced dead at the scene after a woman told police her child had been shot.

Two people were detained by police and the circumstances of the shooting were under investigation, the SPD said in a statement on its website.

Jennifer Dowling, reporter at FOX 13, posted footage to X (formerly Twitter) that purportedly showed sections of 23rd Ave West blocked off by police vehicles.

A spokesperson for the SPD told Newsweek via email: "There is no update to the current information that has been released, this continues to an ongoing investigation. As Information becomes available it will be updated to the SPD Blotter page."
