Owner Convinced Cat and Dog Are in Love Asks: 'Is This Normal?'

You should always expect the unexpected on social media as it is full of surprising content like this heartwarming video of a loved-up cat and dog.

The clip was shared by @kayaandbernie, the TikTok account for a dog called Kaya and a cat called Bernard. The footage of the "cute couple" has received over 351,000 views since April 11.

Kaya is a Samoyed dog, and Bernard is a tabby cat, who was introduced to the canine as a kitten. The text layered over the clips says the "love started flowing" since the day they met, and now they "don't even hide it anymore." Now, the owners get to see the passion daily as Bernard grooms his canine companion, and they also eat, sleep, and play together.

In the caption, the owner asks: "Is this normal?"

These days, it is pretty usual for cats and dogs to get along, but sometimes felines are only happy to engage on their own terms.

The pet food company Purina says that proper introductions are crucial if owners want the species to get along.

"Cats and dogs are much more likely to become lifelong friends if they meet each other from the very start, as they'll be able to grow up together and learn how the other wants them to behave," adds the Purina website.

However, if an owner decides to introduce adult animals, then it is important that they take it slowly and do not force the friendship.

It is useful to provide cats with quiet spaces to retreat from the often more-energetic dogs. These areas allow felines to feel secure and more receptive to friendships.

Additionally, ensuring that dogs are well exercised is crucial. A tired pup is less likely to chase a cat, which can facilitate a smoother introduction and relationship-building process between the two pets.

In an ideal world, all cats and dogs would get along like these two, but sometimes, the pets may need to put in the extra work. The bond may take days, weeks, or even years to build. In some cases, it may never even happen.

So far, the video, perfectly paired with the song "Just the Two of Us" by Grover Washington, Jr., has more than 36,000 likes and over 240 comments.

One user wrote: "They're just each other's fur buddy."

"They made my day!" posted another.

A third commenter added: "I've witnessed this with a kitten I brought home stay a 5- 6 weeks old and my female Pitbull nannied her and the behavior was the same."

A fourth commented: "It's giving protection over each other."
