Midsize Millennial Woman Hard Passing Wide Leg Jeans Praised—'Girl Same'

Fashion, as we all know, goes round in circles. Millennials are now torn between digging through their closets for clothing from their younger days or sticking to what they know.

One fashion blogger's thoughts on baggy jeans has recently racked up 13 million views after she shared a fashion fail that was very relatable—especially for those born between 1981 and 1996.

While baggy denims may be Hailey Bieber's go-to, this midsize content creator isn't willing to replace her skinny jeans for a looser fit.

The start of her TikTok video shows Shelby (@shelbysaywhatblog) wearing a black off-the-shoulder top paired with wide leg jeans. The text layered over the clip says: "POV: You're a curvy millennial trying on baggy wide leg jeans because it's 'cool.'"

You’ll have to pry skinny jeans off my 💀 cold legs. ✋ you can’t convince me wide leg baggy jeans, look good on my curvy, midsize body. Bye!!

Judging by the look on her face, she feels anything but cool. The clip then cuts to Shelby wearing skin-tight blue jeans and the on-screen text implies she feels much more confident in them.

The viral video shared to @shelbysaywhatblog has amassed 1.3 million likes.

While baggy jeans are in, some TikTok users like Shelby aren't convinced. So far, the video has received more than 4,600 comments.

One user said: "I am not letting younger people dictate how I look, long live the skinny jeans, you do look great in both!"

"You'll have to pry the skinny jeans off my cold dead thunder thighs," said another.

Another agreed: "Girl same. I look like a whole Roblox character."

However, some users have encouraged Shelby to try different styles or perhaps change her top.

One said: "You look great in the baggy [to be honest, I don't know] why millennials are constantly picking beef."

According to fashion magazine InStyle, 2023 is the year of the baggy jean. This is because 90s and early 2000s fashion has been revived and Gen Z can't get enough of year 2000 fashion, also known as Y2K. The hashtag "y2kclothing" has more than 85 million views alone.

The blast from the past trend is all about low-rise jeans and a baggy silhouette, which are frequently paired with a crop or halter neck top. Of course, the look wouldn't be complete without a rhinestone or buckle belt.

While Gen Z may look to archive photos of Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears for fashion inspiration, the baggy look existed long before them. In the 1980s, the trousers were marketed to men, with the slogan "Just what your legs need. Elbow room."
