Woman Asks for Help Using Phone—Granddaughter Not Prepared for Why

An exchange between grandmother and granddaughter has left people in stitches after a woman in her 80s asked for help with an unusual technological task.

Raechelle, from New Zealand, found herself in the role of tech support for her baby boomer grandmother, who had a rather unique request—assistance in deleting the contacts of people who had passed away.

"It all started when Nan called me one afternoon and asked when I was free to help her with her phone," Raechelle told Newsweek. "She always calls me for jobs like this so I thought nothing of it."

Arriving at her grandmother's home a few days later, Raechelle was greeted with a list of names and a straightforward directive.

"She instantly hands me a list of names and says they need to be deleted," Raechelle explained. "I instantly just laughed and then realized she was serious."

Delighted by her grandmother's practical approach, Raechelle caught the moment on camera where the exchange between the two has been viewed over 1 million times. In the footage, Raechelle's grandmother nonchalantly rattles off names and their respective fates.

"Colleen's dead. David p***** off with some other woman," she said causally. "Danny's gone into a home in Christchurch. Jessica's died."

As Raechelle got to work with the task in hand, she said: "So you have to take all the ones out that have died?" to which her grandmother replied: "Well, it's no good having them in the bloody thing, is it? They're not gonna ring me now."

TikTok users were cracking up in the comments, delighted by the grandmother's response.

"Savage," said TikToker Gingerina. Commenter FivePackLove wrote, "She has her list written out! Priceless!"

"My grandma did the EXACT same thing," said commenter Tasha. "They are savages."

Others were particularly invested in hearing more about Dave, who was allegedly "with some other woman."

"I feel we need a follow up about Dave lol," said viewer Rob.

Others told their own similar stories about older relatives. Syd wrote: "No but when my grandpa was still alive he would have me Google his friends to see if they were dead or not."

Raechelle was delighted that the video brought a smile to so many faces.

"I just filmed it to show my cousins and sisters. Their reaction was so good I knew I had to share it further," she explained. "It's just hilarious. Most people just wanted the 'Dirt on Dave.'"
