Florida Realtor Finds 'Creepy' Underground Room Hidden Behind Iron Door

A realtor in Gainesville, Florida, has shared the unexpected discovery she found lurking beneath the floors of a seemingly ordinary house.

When making a routine video to preview a property, Jessica Law opened what appeared to be a closet door—only to find a concealed basement.

"I was filming a preview video for a buyer and opened the door to what I thought was a closet," Law told Newsweek. "The listing description just said 'and a basement,' but I wasn't expecting it to be off a bedroom in the back of the house or to have an iron cage door."

In the video, Law opens the large iron door to uncover a steep set of stairs. She explained that basements aren't common in Florida, which added to her confusion. As she took the camera down the stairs, it revealed the basement was furnished with a rug and dehumidifier, suggesting that it was being used by the previous owners. Alongside the video she added the hashtags #creepy and #scarystory.

The house, which had been inherited a few years prior, had served as a rental property in recent times. Because of this, nobody knew what purpose the basement room was built for, or what it was used for in the past.

In hundreds of comments on the viral video, people shared their reactions to the unusual discovery, ranging from interest to horror.

TikToker Lick Log Acres said: "Just a storm shelter. Look at side of door handle is on."

While viewer Beccia23 wasn't impressed at all: "That's a big NOPE for me! I've seen this true crime episode."

Others theorized that the basement was actually a panic room after seeing the lock on the inside.

"Some call that a basement, others call it a dungeon," said smileybet.

After finding the basement room, Law decided to share it online in case others were interested. "This was one of those I thought people might be interested in to see the strange things we see sometimes in real estate," she said.

This is far from the first time a realtor has made an unusual find in a home. Caroline Holman recently shared a discovery that left people crying. Holman told Newsweek she "just melted" when she found it.

Earlier this year a homeowner also made a shocking revelation. Jill Bearup thought she knew every square inch of her new home, but when she found a trap door and lifted it up, she wasn't prepared for what was underneath.
