Donald Trump Jr. Speaks Out on Rumors of 'Brutal Assault' at Mar-a-Lago

Former President Donald Trump's son, Donald Jr., spoke out on social media on Thursday about the rumors of a "brutal assault" at Mar-a-Lago.

On Wednesday, a video of Trump, the GOP frontrunner in the 2024 presidential race, at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, went viral on X, formerly Twitter. The clip was shared by X account PatriotTakes, a self-described watchdog group set on "exposing right-wing extremism."

The video showed a zoom-in shot of Trump who appeared to be talking to former Senate Judiciary Committee adviser Garrett Ventry out of frame when he then put his hand on Ventry's back.

The video, which has 581,800 views, was captioned: "Did Trump shove this guy out of his way?" The post garnered a lot of speculation with a number of other social media users agreeing that Trump seemed to aggressively try to move Ventry out of the way.

"When you have no fear of a physical response, this is what you do!!" wrote X user Corwin Melvin in response to the video.

X user @Haganaha10 wrote: "Just like in Europe, where he moved the Minister of Montenegro out of the way so he could stand in front of the rest of the world leaders."

The X user was referring to when then President Trump appeared to shove aside Montenegro Prime Minister Dusko Markovic at a NATO summit in Brussels in 2017 to get to the front of a group of world leaders.

On Thursday, Ventry posted a zoomed-out video of the interaction and wrote: "Guys this isn't a scandal. I was talking to President Trump after his speech, we then took a picture, then he patted me on the back and walked away. The internet is insane."

Donald Jr. reposted the video and called the rumors of the so-called brutal assault stupid.

"This is what the media and tech have done to the truth. Imagine everything else they've lied to you about. This, according to many, was a brutal assault on a guest at Mar-a-Lago. You can't make up this level of stupidity anymore," Donald Jr. wrote.

Newsweek has reached out to Trump's campaign via email for comment.

Meanwhile, Trump has been campaigning in South Carolina ahead of the state's Republican primary on Saturday. The former president will go up against former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. While Haley has home-court advantage, Trump has won in South Carolina in past elections.

The former president has also won every state-level Republican primary and caucus so far in the race, aside from the Nevada primary where he was not on the ballot. The election in November will likely be a rematch between Trump and Democrat incumbent President Joe Biden.
