Woman Captures Moment Dad Stops Her in Public to Teach Her a Life Lesson

A man has shared a smart hack to be able to tell when a pineapple is ripe.

Pineapples are loved for their bright, juicy deliciousness, when they are underripe, it can leave a sour taste whereas overripe pineapple can taste off, according to Hannah Klinger, a food writer.

Lois Hunt (@hyejungeee) was grocery shopping with her dad at BJ's Wholesale Club when he stopped her to showcase an invaluable trick.

The viral video has amassed 110,700 likes as people were impressed with the handy hack and even offered other tricks to pick optimum produce.

Lois Hunt from New York City told Newsweek: "There are multiple factors that indicate when a pineapple is ripe such as the color being a vibrant yellow or if it smells sweet.

"However, the trick my dad taught me is to pluck one of the leaves off the pineapple and if there's no tug and the leaf easily falls off, it means it's ripe."

Hunt explained that when her dad stopped her in the middle of the store, she was confused as she watched him pluck a leaf off the pineapple.

She added: "After he explained to me his hack on how to pick a ripe pineapple, I thought the moment was so wholesome and sweet. So I wanted to capture it on video but I had no idea the attention it would end up gathering."

Other TikTokers offered their own helpful tips for getting a good pick.

Stephco1125 suggested the color of the fruit was an important indicator of ripeness.

She said: "The less green and more yellow/orange the better, smell the bottom to see if it smells sweet.

"They also ripen over time if you just wait. Store in a dark, cool space to ripen."

Another TikToker added: "My dad taught me the same thing, he also told me to smell the bottom, so I always do both and the pineapple is always ripe and sweet."

Food writer Hannah Klinger, in an allrecipes.com article, also recommended the color, smell and leaf tests. She also advised that buyers to carry out the weight-and-squeeze test.

The squeeze test involves feeling the pineapple to test its texture, the fruit should feel slightly firm to touch, but if it feels overly firm, it could be an indicator it is underripe. If it feels too soft, it could be overripe.

A heavier pineapple is a good sign the fruit is juicy and therefore sweeter.
