On Thin Ice

Ilulissat, Greenland Turquoise water collects on the top of a melting iceberg in the Disko Bay on June 29. This iceberg and others like it come from the Jakobshavn Glacier, also known as Sermeq Kujalleq. Traveling 130 feet in a day, on average, Jakobshavn is one of the world’s fastest glaciers. It also calves more than 11 cubic miles of icebergs each year—the most of any glacier outside Antarctica.
