YORK, ENGLAND As a commemoration of the 6 million Jews murdered and of victims of other genocides, the Reverend Canon Michael Smith lights some of the 600 candles shaped as a Star of David on the floor of the Chapter House of York Minster on January 26. The display was part of a week-long series of events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27. This year is the 77th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1945.
