Today's 'Wordle' Answer April 24: Hints to Solve #309 Sunday's Puzzle

Wordle puzzles can sometimes prove to be tricky to solve for newcomers and veteran players alike. Luckily, Newsweek is here to share some hints and tips for those who want them.

The goal of the phenomenally popular puzzle game is simple; namely, find out what the hidden word is in six attempts or fewer.

A color-coded system is used to guide players to the correct answer by letting them know whether they have a right or wrong letter.

When players select the right letter in the right place, the tile goes green. If the letter is correct but in the wrong space, it flips to yellow. And if it's not the right letter, then it turns gray.

While it might sound simple, the word of the day often leaves players stumped.

Wordle was created by software engineer Josh Wardle who first shared the game with the public in October 2021.

Within a matter of a few months, Wordle's active player base grew rapidly from a few dozen to an impressive 45 million users per day.

Wardle said he did not intend to create a business around Wordle and that he enjoyed being able to express himself creatively.

He previously told Protocol: "I made this game, but I had no interest in running a game business. Basically, I think of myself as an artist, I really enjoy creating things."

When Wordle established itself as a globe-spanning phenomenon earlier this year, The New York Times stepped in to buy the puzzle game for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

While Wordle has been hosted on the publication's website since February, it continued to use the same gameplay mechanics that made it popular.

Wordle's success inspired a number of other puzzle games, including the math-centered Nerdle and map-based Worldle.
