CCTV footage showed that the passenger had fallen down on the travelator at about 8.30 a.m. local time, according to Don Mueang Airport director Karant Thanakuljeerapat, who spoke to local media.

The airport director also stated that the incident would not result in a delay of flights from the airport.

"Her left leg then went into the moving machinery of the walkway," the CNA report said.

Following the incident the walkway was closed and an investigation was ordered. A press conference is also expected to be held to give further details on the incident

"Don Mueang Airport is deeply saddened by the incident and ready to fully accept the responsibility, as well as take care of the medical expenses and compensation," the airport said in a statement.

In April, at Sydney Domestic Airport in Australia, a 4-year-old girl narrowly avoided losing her foot in an escalator incident, according to a Yahoo! News report.

Lisa Brennan said her daughter Fiadh's Croc shoe unexpectedly got stuck as they took an escalator down to a train at the airport on April 29.

"Maybe middle-way through, she just started shouting 'my shoe, my shoe' and I was trying to pull her shoe out, but then she started getting really hysterical and I realised something was wrong," Brennan said while speaking to Yahoo! News about the incident.

"So I started shouting at people to please press the emergency stop button, but people in front of me just didn't understand what was happening. There was a guy behind me that could see her foot was stuck, so he jumped over me and ran down and pressed it.

"The whole Croc was ripped and there was a slit in her sock," she said. "When I took the sock off I could see her foot was black and blue. It looked like there were chunks out of it.

"If someone hadn't pressed the emergency stop button and her foot had gotten to the bottom of the escalator, the doctor said her foot could've been gone."
