Woman's Unique Talent Seen by 12M: 'Genuinely Impressed'

A video of a woman performing a unique rendition of a tune that will be familiar to many movie lovers has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was posted by @patriciaangelam and has had 11.9 million views since it was first shared on December 23.

A message overlaid on the video says: "pov (point of view) show your special talent to the class day."

The footage shows a woman standing while opening a plastic shopping bag with both hands. She proceeds to fling the shopping bag up and down while humming a portion of the introductory instrumental music played when films from 20th Century Fox are shown. She appears to be performing the percussion parts of the song using the plastic bag.

A caption shared with the post simply reads: "this is not an ad #talent #talentshow #school."

The post comes as cinema enthusiasts in the U.S. were reported to be flooding back to movie theaters this year, after attendance dropped during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic due to safety restrictions, according to recent data from the Mastercard Economics Institute.

Americans were reported to have splurged on outings such as going to see films and concerts in 2023. "Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and blockbuster releases made a splash," Mastercard said in its analysis.

The release of high-profile movies this summer like the film adaptation of Barbie and the story of the "father of the atomic bomb" in Oppenheimer brought scores of cinephiles to movie theaters.

According to a March 2022 report by the Motion Picture Association (MPA), 2021 marked the start of the film, television and streaming industry's "rapid rebound" from the pandemic.

The global box office market was recorded to be at $21.3 billion in 2021, up 81 percent from 2020, the year the pandemic began, while the U.S./Canada box office market was at $4.5 billion in the same year, up 105 percent from 2020, the MPA report found.

The combined U.S. theatrical and home/mobile entertainment market in 2021 was $36.8 billion, a 14 percent increase compared to 2020 and overtaking the 2019 figure of $36.1 billion. Streaming globally also saw growth, with subscriptions in 2020 surpassing the one billion mark and increasing by 14 percent in 2021 to reach 1.3 billion, the MPA report said.
