Woman Gets Adorable Doggy Surprise Upon Arrival at Airbnb: 'Made My Trip'

A woman arriving at her Airbnb enjoyed the warmest of welcomes from a neighboring dog.

In a video posted to TikTok a week ago, a user who asked to be referred to by her handle, @enchuladaz, captured the moment she pulled up outside the vacation property in Red Hook, New York, only to be greeted by a dog.

"I saw him as I drove by and thought he was so cute in his little vest! Then, when I parked and looked out my window, he was next to me," she told Newsweek.

She quickly learned that the dog, who is a golden retriever, was called Pad Thai, and he was very happy to see her. "I was gonna get out, but I could see his owner coming for him and I'm a shy person, so I just rolled the window down and said hi to him while I recorded," she said.

In the resulting video, Pad Thai approaches the car, getting up on his hind legs and resting his front two paws on the open window. He earns a petting for his efforts before finally heading off in response to the calls of his owner.

Footage of their heartwarming encounter was posted to TikTok where it has been watched over 2 million times. As well as being adorable, the clip serves as a reminder of just how friendly our dogs can be. This is especially true of golden retrievers.

A 2023 study published in iScience highlighted this. As part of the research, scientists studied over 11,000 dogs, exploring the relationship between breed and personality, including human sociability.

From this, they were able to deduce the 15 friendliest breeds, with golden retrievers ranked third on the list. The poster @enchuladaz says that Pad Thai, the golden retriever she encountered, belongs to the sustainability center called The O Zone, which is located next door to the Airbnb.

"She lets him roam the premises while she works," she said. "She let me play with him before I checked out."

Enchuladaz was bowled over by the cuteness of the encounter so decided to share the clip to social media. "I kept watching it myself over and over with a huge smile! I wanted to share the joy," she said. "He was too cute not to share!"

Viewers evidently agreed. "You're so lucky," one wrote, with another commenting: "This could be a hallmark movie."

Pad Thai tends to drop into the office on Fridays and Sundays. She attributes his popularity, in part, to his snazzy vest, which gives off a "parking lot attendant" vibe.

Whatever the case, she loved it. "It absolutely made my trip," Enchuladaz said. "Everything could've gone wrong and Pad Thai would've saved the rating. The world would be a better place if all trips started off this way!"
