Vanessa Guillen's Sister Reacts After Killer's Girlfriend Takes Guilty Plea

Mayra Guillen, the sister of Vanessa Guillen—the 20-year-old soldier murdered at Texas Base Fort Hood—has taken to Twitter to express her anguish following new developments.

Aaron Robinson, who was the last person to see Vanessa Guillen alive, became the main suspect in her murder when her remains were found along the Leon River on June 30, 2020.

However, Robinson was able to escape custody on the same day and took his own life before police could reapprehend him.

Robinson's alleged then-girlfriend Cecily Aguilar, who informed police Robinson told her he had killed a female soldier, quickly became a suspect of assisting Robinson in dismembering, burning and burying her body.

On Tuesday, Aguilar pleaded guilty to involvement in the cover-up of Vanessa Guillen's death.

Aguilar pleaded guilty to one count of accessory after the fact and three counts of making a false statement.

She now faces at least 30 years in prison, a fine of up to $1 million and the possibility of 12 years federal supervision once released from prison.

After announcing Aguilar's guilty plea on her Twitter page, Mayra Guillen also expressed her anger at her and overall frustration.

"I feel so sick every time I see her face to face. Sick to my stomach," she tweeted.

"Anxiety. Anger and Frustration. I can't put my words together. I hope she gets what she deserves.

"For her to have the nerve to smile at her defense. She has no remorse."

In a follow-up tweet, she added: "I hate you with all my heart Cecil. You have no idea how much you've hurt us, along with all the others involved that the public will know one day. All of your names and faces."

In June this year, a Texas Department of Public Safety report gave a potential motive for Robinson's killing.

The report read: "Aguilar later explained why Robinson killed Guillen, saying Guillen saw Robinson's cell phone lock screen, which contained a picture of Aguilar. He told her he was worried about getting in trouble for violating the Army's fraternization rules since Aguilar was still married to another soldier, and he hit Guillen in the head with a hammer."

It remains unknown if Robinson had made unwarranted sexual advances on Guillén on the day she died. As heard in I Am Vanessa Guillen on Netflix, her family and friends suspect Guillen was sexually assaulted before her murder.

With the help of lawyer Natalie Khawam, Guillen's sisters Mayra and Lupe were successful in having provision from the I Am Vanessa Guillen bill passed in the $770 billion National Defence Authorization Act signed by President Joe Biden in December 2021.

This made it possible to criminally prosecute sexual assault and sexual harassment outside the armed-service chain of command and for victims to be given protection.

Newsweek has contacted Mayra Guillen for comment.
