Usher's Backstage Super Bowl Outfit Goes Viral

Footage of Usher's backstage outfit that he wore before performing at Sunday's Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show has gone viral on social media.

The R&B singer was joined on stage by a troupe of dancers and special guests, performing some of his biggest hits from the past two decades. Usher performed for 15 minutes, which is longer than most—last year, Rihanna was onstage for 13.

Donning an all-white ensemble, Usher opened the show with a short excerpt of his track "Caught Up," followed by "U Don't Have to Call" and another of his hits, "Love in This Club." He was later joined by rappers Lil Jon and Ludacris for a rendition of their smash 2004 single "Yeah!"

Usher also brought out the likes of Alicia Keys and the musician H.E.R., who impressed the crowd with a guitar solo—and a number of people on X, formerly Twitter, loved every second of it.

And while fans were impressed with the performance put on by Usher ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs defeating the San Francisco 49ers, they were equally taken with his casual backstage outfit caught on camera ahead of the show.

In the hours leading up to his performance, footage was shared on X that showed the star arriving at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium. He was seen wearing a baggy all-black ensemble with matching chunky-sole shoes.

Usher rounded out the look with a large blanket, which was draped around his shoulders and dragged along the floor. He was followed through the arena by an entourage that included Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Johntá Austin.

Commenting on the footage, which was originally shared on the NFL's X account, one social-media user wrote that Usher's outfit represented "me going from couch nap to my actual bed." As of press time, the post has been viewed almost 9 million times.

"As a regular blanket wearer I'm glad he's making it fashionable," posted one X user.

"I actually like that outfit. It looks so comfy," one commented, while a post on Fruit of the Loom's X account read: "He's just like us [for real]."

"It's called a napatizer," another wrote of Usher's eye-catching look.

"I saw him on TV and just said to myself, when you're Usher, you do what you want, the way you want," a user posted about the "My Way" singer.

Following the halftime show, Usher told Newsweek in a statement that he was glad the performance went down so well with viewers.

"I was not exaggerating when I shared with the world that my performance would be a celebration of the past 30 years of my career," Usher said. "I will never forget the energy from the cast and crew, the fans in the stadium, the guest performers and the adrenaline from this monumental milestone in my career.

"I'm so happy everyone enjoyed it, my goal always is to bring people together and feel good through my music and performance," he added.

Proof that his performance was a success is also shown in the numbers; on Sunday, he gained 36,748 Instagram followers, bringing him to 12 million overall. Usher had steadily been gaining followers every day leading up to the game, but Sunday saw the most-impressive increase.
