A U.S. sprinter has been suspended from this year's Olympic games because of a cannabis test—but why is cannabis disallowed?

Following its move to legalize marijuana, New Jersey has become the latest state to drop certain drug charges.

The USADA addressed the consequences of marijuana use in a letter to Congress members who criticized sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson's ban from the Olympics.

The Marijuana Eradication Operation lasting 10 days led to 33,480 pounds of the drug being seized and the arrests of 131 people.

A major combat sports regulator will no longer discipline fighters who have THC in their systems.

The sprinter has received political support following her positive test for cannabis which rules her out of the Tokyo Games.

"The divergent treatment of recreational alcohol and marijuana use reflects obsolete stereotypes about cannabis products," the congresswoman wrote in a letter to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

Many on Twitter were "sickened" by the USADA's decision to suspend Sha'Carri Richardson after she tested positive for cannabis.

The sprinter appeared on the "Today" show to discuss failed drug test.

The nation's highest Court chose this week not to hear a case in which the marijuana industry sought to deduct advertising and other expenses from its taxes.

The 21-year-old sprinter could be shut out of the Tokyo Olympics, which start in three weeks. Fans have been calling for her to get "the same pass Michael Phelps received."

Richardson was America's top 100-meter sprinter at the U.S. Team Trials and a favorite to win gold at the Tokyo Summer Games later this month.

"This contradictory and unstable state of affairs strains basic principles of federalism and conceals traps for the unwary," Thomas wrote on Monday.

"On-chain signals indicate that strong hands are aggressively buying the Bitcoin dip," Alexandra Clark, a trader at London-based GlobalBlock, said in a research note. And marijuana-related stocks are getting a close look from investors as more states legalize the drug or decriminalize possession of small amounts for personal use.

"This is extremely discouraging and alarming to know that these products could end up in the hands of our young children who think they're having an afternoon snack that cannot be allowed," said New York Senator Todd Kaminsky.
