Tom Holland Calling Zendaya 'My MJ' Melts Hearts of Spider-Man Fans

Tom Holland ensured girlfriend Zendaya's 25th birthday started on an upbeat note on Wednesday, when he shared a heart-warming selfie of the two posing together.

In the photo, which was posted on Instagram, the actor was seen sporting his Spider-Man costume as the birthday girl aimed her camera lens at a mirror.

Zendaya, who plays MJ, or Michelle, in the Spider-Man movies, rested her head on Holland's shoulder as he struck a pose with makeup scratches covering his face.

Captioning the behind-the-scenes snapshot, Holland, also 25, kept things in character, as he wrote: "My MJ, have the happiest of birthdays. Gimme a call when your up xxx."

It is likely that Zendaya enjoyed a lie-in on her birthday morning, as she took to her Instagram Story to share a late-night snapshot from the set of her show Euphoria.

Following much speculation, the lovebirds—who first worked together on 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming—have been seen enjoying a number of outings with one another and were even caught on camera putting on a public display of affection.

The post sparked an outpouring of gushing messages from Holland's Instagram followers, who were moved by the way in which he chose to refer to Zendaya.

"OH MY GOD THIS IS SO ADORABLE 😭," wrote one fan, while another commented: "MY MJ im losing my s***."

13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford showed she was moved by the post when she posted a pair of emotional faces, while fellow actress Marisa Tomei, who portrays Aunt May in the Spider-Man movies added a trio of roses.

One of Holland's followers took Tomei's post as confirmation Zendaya and Holland are a couple, writing: "This confirmed it for me!! So happy for Tom and Zendaya! ❤️"

Despite the recent public displays of affection, they had initially been coy about the nature of their relationship, insisting they were just friends.

"We are friends," Zendaya previously told Variety. "He's a great dude. He's literally one of my best friends.

"This past how many months we've had to do press tours together. There's very few people that will understand what that's like at 20 years old."

The screen stars are gearing up to hit the promotional trail together once again later this year, for the release of their movie Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Their characters will be seen as a couple in the film, after starting out as classmates in their first onscreen outing together. Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to be released on December 17.
