Mom Can't Believe Toddler's Timing As She Wakes From Nap At Worst Moment

Despite making great progress with potty training, this mom learnt a valuable lesson about flying with a toddler recently, and she certainly won't be making the same mistake again.

Kiersten Brooke DeCook, 28, was so pleased by how quickly her daughter Adaline had taken to potty training in recent weeks, and she thought the three-year-old was finally ready to leave the pull-up diapers as a thing of the past.

But what she hadn't counted on happening was a toilet emergency after a short flight, telling Newsweek that it was a very "stressful moment."

After sleeping through the entire flight from Atlanta to Orlando, Adeline woke up just as the plane was landing and was desperate for the bathroom – but there was already a queue of people ahead who were ready to disembark.

"I took her to go potty right before boarding, and thought she'd then be fine until we got to Orlando. What I didn't think about was her sleeping until landing and then asking to use the bathroom once the aisles were filled with passengers impatiently waiting to get off," DeCook said.

DeCook ended up having to try and hurry off the flight with her toddler and rush to the nearest bathroom inside the airport. It was around a 15-minute wait for Adaline, but for her poor mom, it felt "like an eternity."

She turned the experience into a learning curve though, and even shared it on TikTok (@kierstenbrooketravels) to show what it's like to travel with kids and connect with other parents. The video showing her toddler's "impeccable" timing has gone viral, with more than 861,200 views and over 21,400 likes on TikTok already.

Following the chaotic experience, it was lesson learned as DeCook says she will never forget to pack the emergency pull-ups ever again.

She continued: "I was super proud of her as potty training has been a long process because I've struggled with consistency during our travels, so she'd fall right back into wearing pull-ups.

"Due to turbulence, delays, people in the aisle, different schedules, potty training on the go is a challenge, especially during air travel too. That's why I share my experiences so that other parents can realize I'm just a mom with a passion for travel and living life to the fullest with my kids."

The response on social media has been varied, as some people were very sympathetic, some offered advice, while others criticized DeCook for not putting her daughter in a diaper to begin with.

But for her, she loves sharing these parenting experiences with her followers to show what traveling with a toddler is like, and to help others avoid making the same mistakes.

Among the 270 comments on the TikTok post, one person wrote: "I feel like how stressful it can be bringing a potty-trained toddler out and about isn't talked about enough."

Another TikTok user responded: "Always do pull ups on the plane. It's just not worth the risk for me especially at the beginning of potty training."

While another comment reads: "it's so stressful!"
