Taylor Swift Scores Big Win Ahead of Album Release

Taylor Swift has scored a big win ahead of her album release on Friday, with the pop star racking up more than 300,000 new Instagram followers in 30 days.

Swift announced her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department while accepting the Grammy Award for Best Album in February. As the April 19 release date has neared, the hype for the album has reached new heights, with the promotional campaign sending Swifties wild.

A hoard of fans lined up to scan a QR code in Chicago's North District on Monday to view a 13-second clip on the singer's website, while Swifties have been scouring the Tortured Poets promo materials, pop-up stand, and tracklist for Easter eggs.

Following her history-making Eras tour—which has made the singer a billionaire—and further wins at this year's Grammys, it's hard to imagine how Swift's star power could rise more.

Still, the 34-year-old has managed to land even more fans on social media. According to analytics platform Social Blade, Swift has gained an average of 10,875 new Instagram followers a day for the past month, equalling 326,250.

Swift's total follower count is now 283 million. The boost has helped to solidify her spot in the top 20 most-followed Instagram accounts around the world, with Swift currently tied for 14th place with National Geographic.

How Taylor Swift Became One of the Biggest Stars in the World

Last year was stellar for Swift, with the music icon smashing multiple records.

Despite only being halfway through its 152-date run, her Eras tour has already made over $1 billion, making it the highest-grossing tour of all time.

Before hitting the landmark figure in December, the tour had already smashed the record for the highest-grossing tour by a female artist. So many fans tried to purchase Eras tickets in 2022 that the Ticketmaster website crashed.

The opening night of the tour also broke the record for the most-attended concert by a female artist, with 69,000 people showing up in Glendale, Arizona, to watch Swift perform. The record was previously held by Madonna, with 63,000 fans attending the pop icon's 1987 concert at Anaheim Stadium in Southern California.

Prior to the Eras tour concert movie hitting theaters in October, the film managed to fetch $100 million in pre-sales, becoming the highest-grossing concert movie of all time.

Swift has also taken over the world of streaming. When the Eras tour film landed on Disney+ in March, it quickly became the platform's most-streamed music film ever, with viewers collectively racking up 16.2 million hours of screentime in the first weekend alone.

In March, Swift became the first female artist to have 10 solo singles reach over 1 billion listens on Spotify. She is also the second-most streamed artist on the platform, averaging 104 streams a month.
