Surprise at 'Lil Fella' Peering Back at Woman From Water

A social media video that captures a woman's surprise after catching a face staring back at her from the water has stunned viewers across the Internet.

The video, which has been viewed more than 72.6 million times since it was first shared to TikTok on November 13, filmed Lara O'Byrne's expression after spotting a seal staring back at her from the water while on an evening walk with a friend.

The environmental science major, who posts about her daily life and passion for athletics on TikTok, filmed the moment when she caught sight of the seal. The TikToker had been strolling by the side of a port when she spotted the visiting animal.

TikTok users have been blown away by the "human" and "intelligent" quality of the seal's stare and mannerisms, with many voicing their opinions under the post. The video featured a few clips of the seal staring inquisitively at O'Byrne and her friend, while "chilling" in the water.

The post had been captioned: "No this fella is just a sea puppy".

There are 33 species of pinnipeds alive today, most of which are known as seals.

"Pinnipeds can be found on every continent on Earth, though most species occur in cold-water environments. Thick layers of fat, also known as blubber, keep the animals warm, in addition to dense fur," National Geographic states on its website.
