Dog 'Apologizes' for Scratching Owner, Isn't Very Convincing

A dog has gone viral with her unique apology, a smile on her face the entire time, after scratching her owner while playing.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Macey lives in the United Kingdom with her owner, Charlotte Brooks, who regularly shares videos of her adored pet to her TikTok account @mybluegirlslife.

One video, posted on March 30, proved hugely popular, gaining close to 5 million likes as animal fans fell in love with the three-year-old staffy giving a not-very-convincing apology.

In the clip Brooks says in a sad voice: "You've just scratched me. You have just hurt me."

Macey apologizes in her own way, sitting on her haunches and begging with her front paws, with what appears to be a happy smile on her face.

Her tail wagging, she tries to jump up on Brooks before sitting down again and raising up her arms.

"Is that you saying sorry, is it?" Brooks asks, and reaches down to pet Macey, who immediately holds onto her arms and gives her some loving licks.

"OK, OK, thank you," Brooks tells her adored pet.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are described by the American Kennel Club (KCA) as a "mild, playful companion with a special feel for kids."

"Staffies still resemble the pugnacious brawlers who once ruled England's fighting pits," the organization writes. "But today's responsible breeders are producing sweet-natured, eager-to-please Staffies with a reputation for being patient companions to the whole family."

The video went massively viral, with close to 17,000 people taking to the comments to share their thoughts, including one who jokingly labeled Macey the "most aggressive staffy."

Another joked: "Why is bro surrendering," and one person whose heart melted from the video noted: "The little sneeze to let you know she's playing."

"This creature brings me joy," one commenter admitted, and another said there was "not a thought behind those eyes."

Brooks lovingly calls Macey her "land seal," and one commenter joked: "Staffy and seals should have a common DNA ancestor or something because they look like brothers lol."

Brooks' TikTok page is full of Macey's adventures, from drives in the car, trying new food and playing with her favorite toy—which sometimes means a sock.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are not listed as a dangerous dog breed in the U/K. or U.S., but some people do not trust them due to the roots of the breed being associated with fighting.

One commenter on Macey's sweet video which referred to the dog as a "beast" led to Brooks posting another video in response, which showed her pet growing up from a puppy and being gentle toward people, including children.

In the caption, she wrote: "She gets so much hate when I trust her more than I do most humans."

Newsweek has contacted Charlotte Brooks for comment via TikTok and email.
