Simple Mind Trick To Stop You Texting a Crush Goes Viral—'Feels Good'

Can't stop checking your phone for a text from your crush? One woman says there's a way out, and she has shared her secret with Newsweek.

Meral Arik, 29, said that she came to the advice after experiencing myriad relationships—from secure connections, to "situationships," to love that ended in heartbreak.

"I've gained a unique perspective on the importance of self-love in dating," she said. "Even though I consider myself self-aware, I too have fallen into the trap of investing in someone who wasn't genuinely interested. My advice is intended to help others avoid those same pitfalls," she told Newsweek.

Arik said that she is currently single and focused on giving dating advice to her viewers on TikTok—but not necessarily relationship advice.

"My main message to women is to prioritize self-love and recognize that they deserve someone who chooses them wholeheartedly," she said.

"Mutual interest is crucial, but it starts with loving and valuing yourself first. If you're pursuing someone who doesn't reciprocate, it's a signal to refocus on your own self-worth and find fulfillment in yourself before seeking it in others."

Her advice is already proving popular. A video posted @meralarik has gone viral, offering a mindset shift to people who are obsessing over the next message from their crush.

"While you may be waiting for a text from him, he's waiting for a text from someone else," she says in her video, explaining how she arrived at her advice and what she hopes viewers take from it. Since it was posted on April 21, her video has received over 440,000 views and nearly 50,000 likes.

"Before you text that man who already didn't text you back, just imagine him opening your text, getting his ego boost, ignoring it and then proceeding to text the woman he actually wants to talk to." she adds on TikTok.

Arik goes on to describe how the woman he "actually" wants to talk to will end up ignoring him, because he is "nothing special."

"Be like that other woman and realize he's nothing special," Arik said. "You deserve someone who prioritizes you. I love you."

What did the comments say?

Viewers in the comments are resonating with Arik's advice, too. Some have even confided in her about the mistakes they've made, or regrets they have in seeking partners. To this, Arik has words of affirmation.

"Sometimes we only really only learn by going through it. Now, you have new data for your [actions] going forward. Sending love," Arik wrote in response to a comment that said they had already sent a text to their crush before seeing the video.

Some, though, wrote from the other side: "Just deleted his contact from my phone after four days of nothing," @nocturnal_eclipse wrote. "Feels good."

"After being ghosted which really messed my head up, I now get a text two weeks later," @shadymouse22 wrote. "I am now healed and totally over it. I don't want to open this message because I'm happy again."
