Internet Shocked at Sibling's 'Revenge' on Brother for Ruining Wedding

A Reddit post detailing how one sibling announced their wife's pregnancy during their brother's wedding as a form of payback has ignited a firestorm of debate online.

The post by u/No_Kiwi_2, which unwraps a complicated family dynamic involving bombshells at each other's weddings, has garnered over 40,000 upvotes and more than 2,700 comments since it was first shared online three days ago.

The original incident, as described in the post, occurred at the user's own wedding when their brother proposed to his partner despite being explicitly asked not to.

"My brother said he was going to propose at my wedding. I told him no and that it was a day about myself and my wife and we did not want any distractions," the Redditor wrote.

Despite the warning, their brother went ahead with the proposal, leading to a significant family disagreement.

"My mom lost her s***," the user said.

Fast forward to their brother's wedding, and the user took the opportunity to announce that they are expecting their first child during a toast to irk their sibling for their previous indiscretion. This led to mixed reactions from the entire family.

"My mom was upset but my grandmother told her to sit down and shut up. We spent most of the reception talking to family we would not see again for a while about our coming baby," the user explained.

The mother's reaction was notably strong, according to what the Redditor recounted in the post.

They wrote: "My mom says I was an a****** for taking attention away from my brother on his wedding day. She got really mad when I reminded her that she threatened to leave my wedding if I kicked him out after he proposed. I have the screen cap of the text messages."

"While my mom was upset, my grandmother told her to sit down and shut up. We spent most of the reception talking to family we would not see again for a while about our coming baby," they added.

To gain further insight into the psychological dynamics at play, Newsweek consulted Kayla Meyer, a licensed therapist specializing in trauma and family relationships.

Meyer suggested that the family's issues stem from a misunderstanding of boundaries versus rules.

"This family dilemma is sad," Meyer told Newsweek.

"The person made a rule for their brother to not propose at their wedding and a rule for their mom to be on their side and understand how important the wedding [was]," Meyer explained.

She added that a boundary would have been more appropriate, such as stating, "I am not going to allow that so you will be invited to the ceremony only."

Meyer also reflected on the need for empathy and exploration in familial roles, suggesting that the ongoing conflicts might stem from deeper relational dynamics.

The Reddit community has reacted strongly to the post, with many expressing support for the user's actions as a justified response to their brother's earlier breach of etiquette.

This incident underscores the complex interplay of family dynamics, personal milestones, and the powerful role of social media in amplifying personal stories.

"Revenge is a dish best served cold," one user commented.

Another wrote: "Good on you."
