Rottweiler Puppy Learning How to Be Confident Wins Pet of the Week

From a cat who managed to cancel his own neutering appointment to an American alligator handling the frozen temperatures in Texas, this week we have seen plenty of animal antics.

Our readers have also been sending their adorable and funny pet videos and pictures to be part of our Newsweek Pet of the Week line-up.

Each week, we collect our favorite pet videos and pictures from readers and share them, whether it is a puppy caught red-handed stealing toilet paper or a dancing dachshund.

If you want your pet to be part of next week's lineup, be sure to follow the instructions at the end of this story to get involved.

Winner

This week's Pet of the Week winner is Crew, a Rottweiler puppy who loves nothing more than a bit of playtime, along with building up his confidence.

"His playmate is one of his sisters," owner Maddie Vaughan told Newsweek.

She said: "All of our dogs are working and sports animals. Young Crew is in the early stage of training to become my service dog."

Coming from an excellent bloodline, Crew is set to participate in American Kennel Club shows and sports as he grows up.

In a video shared with Newsweek, Crew was playing with his Rottweiler companion in the backyard as they played a game of hide-and-go-seek between a blue tunnel.

"He is quite the character," said Vaughan.

Finalists

Our first finalist this week is Panda, a rescue dog who lives with owner Judy Dean in Florida.

"Panda is a pandemic puppy of a street-dog mom," Dean told Newsweek.

Panda's owner describes her pet, a mix of 15 breeds, as perfect.

Courtney

Next up this week is Courtney, a cat that is sure to bring a smile to your face.

"She looks like she is laughing at the funniest joke she has ever heard," owner Melissa Wellman told Newsweek, sharing the adorable picture.

"This picture brings a smile to my face," Wellman said, adding that it should be shared far and wide. "I think this should be made into a new laughing-face emoji."

Murphy the dog

Last but definitely not least this week is Murphy, a 1-year-old purebred husky who lives in South Carolina with owner Debbie Glover.

"He escaped his home and came to my yard where I have two Pyrenees and Golden Retriever mix brothers," Glover told Newsweek. "He was looking for a playmate."

A week later, his family showed up to claim him, but Murphy had different ideas, and kept coming back to visit.

"After officially dog-sitting him two weeks, he settled in. When [he] finally returned to his home after the family's vacation, he was not happy," said Glover.

That was when the family called and asked if they wanted him, and Glover welcomed the husky with open arms. "My favorite thing about him is his boundless energy," she said.
