Ricky Martin Talks About His Hit Song's 25th Anniversary and Carol Burnett

Grammy-winning singer and actor Ricky Martin talked about the 25th anniversary of one of his biggest hit songs and dished about what it was like working with Carol Burnett during Wednesday's episode of ABC's "The View".

The Latin popstar's hit "Livin' La Vida Loca" was released 25 years ago and the continued success of the iconic song decades later does not surprise him.

"I knew it was going to be a hit from the moment I heard it," the 52-year-old singer said. "I just felt it immediately."

He liked the song's beat, lyrics and fusion of different musical styles.

The singer revealed the album "Ricky Martin" was about to go into mastering when he heard "Livin' La Vida Loca" for the first time, and he fought to get the song on the album.

"I said 'hold on a second, everybody needs to stop. We need to go back into the studio,'" Martin said.

The song went No. 1 in several countries and received four Grammy nominations.

Working with a comedy legend

Martin then dished about his acting career and his current project starring on the Apple TV+ comedy series "Palm Royale."

The show takes place in the 1960s and features a star-studded cast, including Kristen Wiig and Carol Burnett.

"I feel so lucky to be working with her," said Martin, who has never acted in a comedy before. "It's amazing because she cares. She looks at you and she says 'How are you?' and she's looking at you in the eyes and she says 'No really, how are you?' So it's beautiful, that's how you break the walls."

Martin said he deeply relates to the character he plays on the show. His character is trying to understand and accept his sexual identity in the 1960s, which is a struggle Martin faced in the 1990s and early 2000s.

"This guy gives me the opportunity to release all of that frustration and sadness and also the joys of being able to own your emotions and be happy with who you are," Martin said.

"The View" host Whoopi Goldberg remarked that Martin has caught "the acting bug."

While Martin has had great success in music, he explained that he's grown to love acting.

"I just want to learn. I just want to keep growing," Martin said. "Music will always be there for me, but I think that when you're a storyteller, you are a storyteller and you look for any excuse just to share your emotions."
