Rescue Dog Does the Unexpected When Owner Accidentally Leaves Door Open

The moment a dog displayed a heartwarming level of loyalty has melted hearts online, gaining more than 2 million views on TikTok.

When her owners accidentally left the front door open, rescue dog Mollie sat patiently in the doorway for 40 minutes until her owner returned home.

The touching moment was shared on TikTok by Melissa (@fensonfam15), who dubbed Mollie a "good girl" in the viral video.

Despite the accident that left the door open while the family popped out, thankfully, the dog knew better than to make a break for it and was waiting for her owners when they parked in the driveway.

Melissa shared her appreciation for her pup's remarkable behavior in the video's caption, writing, "We are so blessed to have such a good girl!!"

The text overlay on the video emphasized the level of patience and said: "We accidentally left the door OPENED and she waited 40 minutes by the door waiting for us to return home."

Mollie's action are even more incredible when her history is considered. Melissa told Newsweek: "She was rescued from an abusive home and was considered to be an escape artist. When we adopted her we had our border collie Charlie—she learned so much from him including to not runaway from home."

After an escape-prone past, Melissa believes Mollie choosing to stay despite the closed door was down to something else: "I believe she learned to stay because he did, but also she knew how loved she was with us."

Sadly, the family recently lost Mollie's border collie friend to cancer, making Mollie's waiting even more special.

"When we got home to see her patiently waiting and watching for all of us to come home it really touched my heart," Melissa said.

Moved by the dog's loyalty, followers flooded the comments section with admiration and anecdotes of their own pets' behaviors:

Viewer Amy couldn't see the same thing happening in her house: "My dog would have been in another city by the time I got back lol," she wrote.

Fellow dog owner Kam said, "Meanwhile my dog would've been in another state."

The popular account @weratedogs even chimed in and said in the comments, "She knows she's got it good right where she's at."

The hilarious moment echoes a similar occurrence last year when a dog living in London, England, was caught on camera debating whether to venture out of an open door.

In the short clip, Mollie stands in the hallway and looks out of the open door, then at the stars, then back at the door before finally deciding to head upstairs to see his owner.

Some dogs have been caught on camera doing quite the opposite.

Last year, a dog owner set up a camera to figure out why she kept finding her door open, only to discover her German shepherd had figured out how to open it himself.

Other viewers noted that Mollie was guarding the house well. "She wanted passerbys to know she was there so don't try to rob the house," said @ash.sch.life.

User @Riverofniles commented, "Dogs are so loyal. Just so sad they live such short life spans and give us more than we deserve."
