Did anyone win the Powerball drawing?

A player who bought their ticket in Michigan matched all five numbers and the Power Ball and won the jackpot. The jackpot winner will be able to claim their prize either as an annuity, which is made up of an initial payment followed by 29 annual graduated payments, which will add up to $70 million with the last payment, or as cash, which means $49.8 will be paid out in one go.

The jackpot in the next Powerball drawing on Saturday night will be an estimated $40 million with a cash option of $28.4 million.

Powerball winners

While nobody matched five numbers using the Power Play, which last night was X2 and would have doubled the prize to $2 million, one player from Missouri matched five numbers to win $1 million.

Nine people won $50,000 each by matching four numbers and the Power Ball and one of these winners doubled their prize to $100,000 using the Power Play. More than 700 people won $100 by matching either four balls or three balls and the Power Ball and nearly 200 of these players doubled their prize with the Power Play.

Additionally, more than 430,000 players won smaller prizes ranging from $4 for matching just the Power Ball to $14 for matching three balls and using the Power Play.

Powerball drawing days

Powerball drawings take place at 10.59 ET on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The next drawings will take place on Saturday, February 15. The drawing will be shown on television and a video of the drawing will be uploaded to the Powerball website.

Tickets cost $2 per play and must be purchased at a licensed lottery retailer. The deadline to purchase a ticket is typically an hour or two before the drawing and varies by lottery jurisdiction. The Powerball lottery can be played in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

How to play Powerball?

To play the Powerball lottery, players must choose five numbers from one through 69 for the white balls and one number from one through 26. Players also have the option of adding the Power Play to their ticket for an additional $1 per play, for the chance to multiply their prize by X2, X3, X4, X5 or X10.

The Power Play number is chosen randomly just before each drawing and the X10 is only in play when the advertised lottery annuity is $150 million or less. Additionally, the match five prize of $1 million is always $2 million with the Power Play, regardless of the number.
