Police Called Over Pet Dog Outside in Snow but 'Laugh' When Learning Breed

While many dogs love having a snow day, it's likely that few enjoy it as much as one pomsky, who worried a neighbor because he wanted to stay outside for so long.

After Zeus saw the snow falling outside, he probably couldn't believe his luck and he certainly didn't want to go back inside, even when his owner, Farida Hashmi, called after him. The 3-year-old was more than happy to stay out there for over an hour, as he ran in circles around the yard and got his thick fur coat covered in white fluffy snowflakes.

Hashmi, who lives in Canada, said that Zeus is always joyful, but when it's snowing, everything is even more exciting for him. She told Newsweek that he's "a winter baby," and very few things distract him from playing in the snow.

As Zeus continued to relish the snow and cold weather that day, a neighbor grew concerned about his welfare and called the police. But after Hashmi told the officer that Zeus is a pomsky, "they just started to laugh after seeing the dog breed."

"Zeus has a great personality, and he looks adorable. Our entire family really loves him," Hashmi said. "He likes nothing more than eating, sleeping and doing everything again in the snow."

A pomsky is a cross between a Siberian husky and a Pomeranian, there's little doubt that the breed is made for the snow. They are very high-energy dogs and require ample exercise every day to keep them stimulated. Hill's Pet Nutrition suggests they need around an hour of daily exercise, so might require multiple walks to keep them stimulated.

Dogs like Zeus will relish any opportunity to play in the snow. Hill's Pet Nutrition says owners shouldn't be afraid to let their pup embrace the wintry weather. But look out for any signs that the dog has become overexposed to the cold, such as shivering.

On this occasion, there was no need for concern because Zeus was more than happy to stay outside in the snow for as long as possible. As soon as he was ready to go back inside, he got to eat.

"When he came back inside, I cooked him a chicken and rice dinner to enjoy," Hashmi said.

How Did Social Media Viewers React?

Following the unexpected police call, Hashmi couldn't resist sharing the hilarious anecdote on Zeus' Instagram account (@the_pomskey), and it has delighted thousands. The clip of Zeus enjoying the snow, in spite of the neighbor's concerns, has been viewed more than 5.1 million times and received over 360,000 likes on Instagram.

Hashmi has loved seeing all the "amazing responses" to the video, and after more than 2,700 comments so far, they keep rolling in.

One commenter wrote: "Cop laughed because he knew, an hour wasn't nearly long enough for the snowfloof."

Another person responded: "They were bred for extreme cold weather, what you see is 10,000 years of breeding joy."

Another user said: "Awww watching your dog do zoomies in the snow was so heart-touching and made my day better!"
