Plus-Size Yoga Teacher Recounts 'Infuriating' Class Experience: 'So Mad'

A woman shared her frustrating experience when she attended a class at a new yoga studio in several now-viral TikTok videos.

Tiffany Crociani posted the videos detailing her interaction with the yoga studio's receptionist and the instructor to her TikTok account @tiffanycroww. These viral clips prompted viewers to chime in and share their anger and thoughts about how she was treated.

"Not sure why this is still happening #yoga #plussize #fyp," read the caption of her first video, which was shared on May 12 and viewed nearly 5 million times.

In that video, Crociani reenacted the conversation she said she had with the receptionist as she was checking in. During that conversation, she was warned that it was a more advanced class.

She assured the receptionist that she practiced yoga for more than 17 years and taught it.

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, there are numerous benefits associated with practicing yoga, including building strength, managing stress and boosting energy.

"You may feel increased mental and physical energy, a boost in alertness and enthusiasm and fewer negative feelings after getting into a routine of practicing yoga," the piece stated.

Getting involved in yoga also allows individuals to connect with a community made up of other people who practice yoga.

Despite Crociani's years of experience, the receptionist was doubtful of her skills and said her job was to check people into class and to ensure they are in classes that are the "right fit."

"We just don't see many people with a larger body like yours, so just keep in mind, if it gets too hard, you can always rest in child's pose," Crociani said during the reenactment of the receptionist.

Crociani then said the receptionist asked if she wanted to take an easier class that was offered before recommending that she speak with the yoga teacher.

TikTok users were floored by the conversation and did not hesitate to take their thoughts to the comments section.

"Plus-size yoga instructor here," a viewer wrote. "Yep, this is one of the reasons that I vet studios for inclusiveness."

"And they wonder why they don't see different body types in their studio," commented another.

One wrote that a person's body shape does not define their health.

"That's infuriating," a viewer commented. "The best thing about yoga is that it's accessible for all body types, and who is she to judge your level without knowing you?"

"'The right fit' I got so mad," a viewer wrote.

In a second video, which was viewed nearly 2 million times, Crociani reenacted the conversation she had with the yoga instructor, which was similar to the one she had with the receptionist.

After asking the teacher if she could take the class, Crociani said the teacher told her they were not trying to make it difficult for her and wanted to ensure she was in the correct class.

"I feel like I am in the right class, and it's really frustrating when a larger person comes into a yoga studio and they're met with all this red tape," she said. "I know my body better than anybody else, so it's just kind of a weird statement for you to assume that I can't do a yoga practice because of the shape of my body."

Crociani's third video in the series, viewed more than 800,000 times, touched on the conversation she had with the instructor after class.

She said the instructor told her she did a wonderful job during class, but Crociani told them she did not plan on returning to the studio.

Crociani said she encouraged studio employees to treat people with all body shapes and sizes the same because "they deserve that."

Newsweek reached out to Crociani for comment.

This is not the first time people took their frustrations to the internet.

A video shared on TikTok showed an angry customer who accused Chipotle employees of making online orders before the orders that were made in the store.

Another video went viral after it showed an argument between a pet store employee and a customer, while one viral video showed the confrontation between two tenants over the amount of noise one was making in her residence.
