Owner Surprises Husky With Igloo, Has Beautiful Reaction: 'Core Memory'

A pet owner has constructed a bespoke kennel-sized igloo for her injured dog in an act of love and creativity—and the internet has responded to the makeshift play area in the snow-covered Oregon backyard with sheer delight.

The husky's owner, Sally Compton (@pnwsally), captured some of the building process and shared it to her TikTok account. Since it was posted on March 3, the viral clip has been viewed more than 2 million times.

Newsweek reached out to Compton via email for more information.

The heartwarming story has captured the attention of social media users worldwide, sparking a conversation about the lengths to which owners will go for their furry friends.

The project was inspired by an injury to the husky, named Wiley, that left him unable to play freely through the winter.

"My husky Wiley has been injured the entire winter, so he hasn't been able to do much," said Wiley's owner, who is based in Oregon.

Recognizing the breed's love of the outdoors, cold weather and Wiley's individual need for a comfortable recovery area, Compton decided to put the igloo together by using large shovels and heaps of snow. Viewers watched the igloo's construction process in the viral footage.

Originating from Siberia, huskies are working dogs that were bred for sled pulling in the snow and companionship. Characterized by their dense double coat, triangular ears, and distinctive markings, huskies can possess striking blue or multicolored eyes that set them apart from other breeds.

Their wolf-like appearance and affinity for harsher climates often leads to misconceptions about their nature, but huskies are known for their gentle and friendly temperament. They exhibit a playful attitude, intelligence, and energy, making them well-suited for families and individuals who can meet their high exercise needs.

What Do the Comments Say?

Since it was shared to the social media platform on March 10 by @pnwsally, the TikTok post has been liked by more than 366,000 users and commented on more than 600 times.

"Did you just create a core memory for your dog?! That's pretty awesome! I know every husky is jealous," one user wrote.

Compton replied: "He's going to expect one every year now!"

"You made his entire year," another user added.

A third user shared: "I'm so happy for him."
