The Case of O.J. Simpson: Top 4 Films and Docs to Watch

By H. Alan Scott

What a week, am I right? Of course, the top story of the week is the passing of O.J. Simpson on Wednesday. While very much a major news story, you can't deny the impact the trial of O.J. Simpson had on entertainment news. Back in 1994 at the time of the murders, Simpson was one of the most famous people in the world, beloved for his legendary NFL running back career and celebrated in Hollywood for his talents. That all ended on the night of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman and the subsequent murder trial. The trial forever changed how we watch true crime and made celebrities of the lawyers involved. Simpson was acquitted in the criminal trial but later held liable for the murders in a civil case brought by the Brown/Goldman families.

That sudden shift in Simpson's story has inspired a number of legendary films and documentaries, particularly the Oscar-winning documentary O.J.: Made in America and the Emmy-winning American Crime Story: The People v O.J. Simpson. Check out more essential films and docs to watch to better understand Simpson's complicated life.

Now, if you'll allow me, let's shift things a little bit to other entertainment news this week, because it was a busy week. First and foremost, it looks like things weren't all that golden for the Golden Bachelor after all. Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist announced their divorce Friday after just three months of marriage. Beyond that, you have two things to do this weekend: watch Ryan Gosling bring all the Kenergy to hosting Saturday Night Live and keep an eye out for the pics and videos coming from all the celebrities attending weekend one of Coachella. (Honestly, I don't know why anyone would want to go to Coachella. Loud music. Outside. The desert? No way! I'll stick with watching Ryan Gosling on my TV from my couch, thank you very much.)

Have a great weekend! And keep an eye out for Monday's newsletter, I'll be dropping my what to watch list for next week. Until then, scroll down for more essential entertainment news.
