NBA player and Houston Rockets All-Star Russell Westbrook announced Monday he tested positive for COVID-19.
The 31-year-old NBA guard said he tested positive for coronavirus before the Houston Rockets team left for Orlando to begin this year's season in the so-called "bubble."
"I tested positive for COVID-19 prior to my team's departure to Orlando. I'm currently feeling well, quarantined, and looking forward to rejoining my teammates when I am cleared. Thank you all for the well wishes and continued support. Please take this virus seriously. Be safe. Mask up! #whynot," Westbrook posted to Twitter Monday afternoon.
Several NBA players were among the first known cases of COVID-19 to be publicly announced in the United States in March, which ultimately led to the season being called off entirely. Several fellow professional basketball players and celebrities including singer John Legend and the Boston Celtics' Enes Kanter relayed their well-wishes for Westbrook's speedy recovery Monday.
On Friday, Westbrook posted a picture on his Instagram page which showed him wearing a bandana facial covering and touting the "why not?" reasoning for wearing the mask. The star guard's current NBA home, Houston, is currently experiencing a massive surge in coronavirus cases, with city officials saying there are now more than 27,000 total.
Several NBA predictions shows the Houston Rockets making a solid playoff run led by Westbrook and fellow All-Star James Harden.
