Moment Adorable Litter of Labrador Puppies Experience Their First Snow

A social media video that captures how a litter of Labrador puppies reacted to their first sight of snow after braving the cold to step outside has melted hearts online.

The viral video, which has been viewed more than 4 million times since it was first shared to Instagram on January 7 by Aimee Heath (@chalkpondretrievers), shows the litter cowering away from the frosty weather.

The viewers were shown adorable footage of the pups testing the waters by sticking their paws and snouts in the snow, before tottering back indoors in unison.

The post's caption reads: "Getting used to the snow and cold takes time".

The puppies had been bred by an established breeder of English Labradors in Maine, according to the account's bio. On the @chalkpondretrievers account, updates on the pups are shared to its more than 97,000 followers.

Newsweek reached out to @chalkpondretrievers for more information via Instagram.

The Labrador is one of the nation's most popular dog breeds, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC). The pet registry cites the breed as being friendly and outgoing. Despite the puppies' disdain for the frostier conditions, Labradors generally fare well in the rain and cold. The breed originates from Newfoundland and tend to have a penchant for exploring in wet and rainy conditions due to their original roles as waterdog companions to fishermen.

"They are companionable housemates who bond with the whole family, and they socialize well with neighbor dogs and humans alike. But don't mistake his easygoing personality for low energy: The Lab is an enthusiastic athlete that requires lots of exercise, like swimming and marathon games of fetch, to keep physically and mentally fit," the AKC writes on its website.
