Liliya Guyvoronsky 'Haunting' Audio Message Before Being Killed

A "haunting" final audio message allegedly from a 20-year-old woman found dead in her Seattle home depicts the concerning relationship between her and the man charged in her death.

Liliya Guyvoronsky was found dead inside her home on Tuesday morning, according to a report by KING-TV in Seattle. Former Bothell City Councilman James McNeal was arrested at Guyvoronsky's home after McNeal instructed attorney Jan Olson to call 911 to report a possible crime.

McNeal allegedly harmed himself prior to the police showing up, according to the report. He was treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and released, Fox 13 reported, but didn't appear at a court hearing.

On Thursday, McNeal's defense attorney, Brooks de Peyster, told Fox 13 that his client was "not medically unavailable." McNeal will remain in custody until he appears before a judge to set bail, Fox 13 reported.

McNeal's relationship with Guyvoronsky was controlling and she was trying to leave him, KING-TV reported.

An audio message allegedly from Guyvoronsky that depicted some of the concerning aspects of their relationship was obtained by independent journalist Jonathan Choe. Choe told Newsweek he was confident the voice in the message belonged to Guyvoronsky, and that he obtained the message from one of her friends.

Newsweek could not independently verify the audio. Newsweek reached out to Olson and de Peyster by email for comment.

"EXCLUSIVE: I've obtained a haunting final audio message sent to a friend by murder victim Liliya Guyvoronsky. It was received on April 28. She talks about her relationship with former Bothell City Councilmember James McNeal. The 20 year old calls him controlling and disrespectful. Guyvoronsky also claims the 58 year old McNeal liked to role-play as a street pimp," Choe posted on X, formerly Twitter, with a copy of the audio on Thursday.

"Sources say McNeal and Guyvoronsky were in a toxic relationship that she was trying to break off. Her naked body was found in a Seattle house a couple days after this recording was made. McNeal has been arrested and is facing a 2nd Degree Murder charge."

In the 3-minute audio message, the person speaking—whom Choe claims is Guyvoronsky—said that a man she was in a relationship with, believed to be McNeal, liked to pursue her because of the challenge she offered.

"I will say no to him, I am firm with him, and I think because of that challenge that's why he's still here pursuing me, he's so into me," she said.

She goes on to say that the man was "trying to put me in a place where he will have all the access he wants for nothing," and "I'm not OK with that."

"He gets mad with the fact that he can't get away with some of these things," she said, before adding that he "pretended he's going to be sex trafficking me."

The speaker said the relationship was an intriguing roller coaster, and that was why she stayed with him.

"I stick around because I want to hear what's the end of the story? Like this guy is just crazy, you know? The kind of games he plays, it's just crazy and it's fun because I will play it back to him," she said. "That's why I'm still in this, but now I'm losing interest."
