Lauren Boebert Gushes Over Trump Looking 'Pretty' While Reportedly Sleeping

Lauren Boebert has said Donald Trump was "praying" after numerous reports claimed he fell asleep during his criminal trial in New York.

Boebert, a firm member of the MAGA camp and long-time supporter of the former president, responded to comments made by California Democrat Robert Garcia during a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing on Thursday evening after attending the trial herself earlier in the day.

Trump has reportedly dozed off several times during the course of his New York trial so far. He is being tried in New York over a $130,000 payment made by his former lawyer Michael Cohen to adult film actress Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 presidential election. Trump has been charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide his reimbursement to Cohen for the hush money payment. He has denied all charges and having an alleged affair with Daniels.

"I think he's praying. As you say, I think he's praying, but if he is sleeping he certainly looks pretty while he sleeps," Boebert said. "Maybe it's an endearing moment of prayer though."

"You know, when I fall asleep on airplanes my mouth kind of drops open, and you know his mouth is kind of tight lipped so maybe it's just a sombre moment of thought."

Garcia responded, while sitting next to a large printed image of Trump with his eyes closed: "I mean, he's sleeping. It's been reported by multiple press outlets."

"I was in the courtroom today and I can see why someone would fall asleep," Boebert continued. " It's kind of slow in there - not as exciting as the House Oversight Committee - and I just want to say that's a lovely picture you have of President Trump, Mr Garcia."

Newsweek has contacted Boebert's office for comment via email outside of normal working hours.

Critics of Boebert have taken to X to discuss her defense of the former president. "Boebert continues to make it painfully obvious that she has no business in Congress," wrote X user Chidi. Another user, Jeff, said: "It's mind blowing to think she won an election."

Others defended Trump and Boebert's claims. "Because it's a scam trail [trial] that's been blown up on cross examination since Tuesday," said X user Tom. "Everyone in the world knows it. Might as well get some sleep since you're stuck there via an 'election interference' trial."

Boebert was one of several Republican Trump devotees, including Florida Representative Matt Gaetz, to show up to the Manhattan courtroom on Thursday in support of the former president. Speaking to reporters outside the trial, Boebert said: "I want all of the news to start asking the question, 'What is the crime?' Because everyone in this court has not been informed of what the crime is. The defendant does not know the crime that was committed."
