Wild Claims About Las Vegas Restaurant's 'Adulterated' Food Sparks Police Probe

A restaurant in Las Vegas has reportedly shut its doors as an investigation is underway into claims customers were fed "adulterated" food, police said.

Detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) are looking into allegations "adulterated" food was served at Secret of Siam, located at 5705 Centennial Center Boulevard.

The Thai restaurant is also currently being investigated by the Southern Nevada Health District, the department's Special Investigations Section, and Code Enforcement to assess the validity of the claims.

Numerous customers are said to have come forward with similar experiences, reporting feeling "high," saying they began to "hallucinate" and felt "hypnotized," according to Yelp reviews.

The site's Yelp page is flooded with negative feedback, dating back to Saturday, with customers claiming they later tested positive for THC.

THC, otherwise known as tetrahydrocannabinol, is the active ingredient in cannabis which is "primarily responsible for the effects of marijuana on a person's mental state," the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NIH) stated.

One, from Jennifer C, based in Northwest Nevada, wrote on Saturday: "Beware, we had lunch here yesterday and were drugged. We ended up at the ER because we didn't know what was wrong with us. Tests confirmed we were served THC in our lunch.

"I'm currently pregnant and horrified of what happened. Elderly, children please beware. (There will be a police report made today, if this happened to anyone else... please report it.)"

Billy T, from Henderson, wrote on Sunday: "Ate here on Feb 1st 2022 and thought I was going crazy. Right after eating I felt the room spinning. Kinda floaty. I felt high. I thought I was just imagining that I was feeling a buzz.

"My brother who also ordered and ate curry here also said he felt high that evening. I just thought I was crazy here but after seeing the news this morning can confirm that we were dosed with something at this location. I stand by this 100% and have reported this to the proper agencies."

Meanwhile 3 News quoted resident Samantha Diaz, who claims she ate at the eatery on February 5, and experienced side-effects when finishing off her meal two days later.

The school teacher, who's still taking medication after surviving cancer, told the site she said to her husband: "'Honey, I think I'm high. And he was like, 'Get out of here! We haven't left the house in two days.'

"That's when I came across this story that this person had written about going to the restaurant, ordering takeout, and being drugged. She had explained her symptoms and I said, 'Honey, get in here. I didn't make it up. It was the curry!'"

However, the restaurant had been inspected days before some of the claims appeared online, on February 10, with the eatery receiving an A grade rating.

Officials from the Southern Nevada Health District inspected Secret of Siam and found only three "demerits," along with four violations.

These included: "Food and warewashing equipment approved, properly designed, constructed and installed.

"Non-PHF labeled/dated/not spoiled/within shelf-life. Food stored off-floor. Retail chemical storage."

3 News added the restaurant appeared to be closed as of Tuesday, while it seems its Facebook page had also been deleted.

Newsweek phoned a number listed as associated with the business, however it was disconnected, a claim echoed by News 3.

In a statement, the LVMPD told Newsweek: "LVMPD Patrol Detectives along with Southern Nevada Health District, Code Enforcement, and LVMPD Special Investigations Section are currently investigating allegations against a restaurant located in the 5700 block of Centennial Center.

"LVMPD has taken multiple reports reference adulterated food. Detectives are currently investigating the validity of these complaints."

Another statement, given to Newsweek, said: "The Southern Nevada Health District is investigating this restaurant. It is an open investigation, and we would not be able to provide additional information or comment."

Newsweek reached out to Secret of Siam for comment.
