Labrador and Puppy Sleeping Peacefully on Car Ride Delights 158M

A social-media video that captures two dogs snoozing together in a moving vehicle has tugged at heartstrings across the internet.

The viral clip, viewed more than 158 million times since it was first shared to Instagram on January 1, shows the pair of Labradors laying on top of one another while seated next to their designated driver, their dad.

The pets appear to differ in age, with one Labrador being noticeably in adulthood while another looks to be a puppy still. Despite their age gap, the pair are very close and spend much of their car journey asleep in different positions on top of each other, or against their owner.

The dogs' owner, who goes by @artwood.ig on the platform, has over 900,000 followers on Instagram where he shares frequent videos of his two dogs. While the pets appear in the majority of their owner's content, and seem to get on very well, welcoming a younger dog into a family that already has a dog is trickier than it seems and needs to be treated with caution.

Animal-welfare charity Battersea Dogs & Cats Home says that advance planning is always needed before a new pup is welcomed into a household that already has a dog.

This is even more paramount when the incoming pup is very young and energetic. The U.K.-based charity advises owners to take both the dogs out for a friendly walk before they are left to get acquainted indoors. This can help deter any angsty scraps over territory.

"When you first get home with your new dog, don't go indoors straight away. Instead, take both of your dogs for a walk together in an area with lots of open space where they can take their time to explore and get to know one another in their own time on more neutral ground," Battersea Dogs & Cats Home writes on its website.

"You may have to arrange for a friend or family member to help you by walking one of the dogs, so you can give them as much space as they need to be able to relax. It's natural to be excited, but try to be as casual as possible and allow them to interact in their own time.

"Don't force them towards each other and don't pick up either dog or try to push them to say hello as this could create tension between them," the charity adds.

During the walk, owners should praise any positive behaviors that each of the dogs exhibit.

At home, the charity says to "make sure any food and toys are out of reach and there are multiple water bowls and beds spread throughout the home to prevent any possible friction between the dogs."
