Johnny Depp's bodyguard said on Monday that weed and cocaine make the actor "chill" and "super mellow."
During a virtual testimony in the trial between Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp's bodyguard, Travis McGivern was asked about the actor's use of different substances, such as marijuana and cocaine and how his demeanor changed when using the substances.
"Chill, for a lack of a better word. Mellow...just super mellow," McGivern said when asked about Depp's demeanor when using marijuana. When asked about Depp's demeanor when using cocaine, McGivern said, "the same..I feel like it levels him out. I haven't noticed any difference when he's used it." McGivern said during his virtual testimony he worked as Depp's personal security guard for several years and first met Heard in 2013.
The comments by McGivern come during the fourth week of testimony's during the trial between Depp, the former star of such movies as Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and Heard.
Depp is suing Heard for an op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post in 2018, in which she discussed experiences of domestic violence during her marriage with the actor from 2015 to 2017. While Depp was never named by Heard in the op-ed, he claims that it damaged his career as an actor. On the other hand, Heard is countersuing Depp for $100 million.
During the hearing last week, another one of Depp's security guards also testified and spoke about the actor's use of different substances, such as marijuana and alcohol.
"He's got a very high tolerance for any substance," Depp's bodyguard, Malcolm Connolly, said last week. "I think Jack Sparrow is more drunk than Johnny Depp."
Depp is known for playing the fictional Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
A video clip from the hearing last week showed Depp laughing after the remarks by Connolly.
On Monday, McGivern also spoke about the times he witnessed verbal altercations between Depp and Heard, as well as incidents where he saw Heard spit on Depp and throw a can of Red Bull at him. "They were super loving, happy and then the next night they could argue," McGivern said.
McGivern continued, "At that point, in the corner of my eye, I saw a fist and an arm come across my right shoulder...I heard and saw a closed fist contact Mr. Depp on the left side of his face."
McGivern went on to say that after he was able to escort Depp out of the apartment where the incident happened, the actor expressed anger with his bodyguard for allowing him to get punched.
