Joe Biden May Be Getting New Neighbors

A couple of properties have appeared for sale in the North Shores-Rehoboth Beach area in Delaware, near President Joe Biden's vacation home.

The first, 75 Anchor Road, Rehoboth Beach, is a five-bedroom, five-bath home including 3,400 square feet on a 0.34-acre lot, described as a single-family residence, according to a listing on Zillow. To own the house, you will need to part ways with about $4.5 million.

President Biden has vacationed at his property in North Shore, near Rehoboth Beach. He tends to like to go on bike rides and walk on the beach, according to local publication The Cape Gazette.

Allison Bateman, among the listing agents named on Zillow for the Anchor Road property, told Newsweek that she never brings up to prospective owners that they may have the president as a neighbor unless they want to discuss it.

"He has been coming to Rehoboth for years and years and years. I mean, back when he was in the Senate, he would come too," she said. "They are a very down to earth family. I mean, literally, you'll see them in the bookstore and stuff like that or at the sandwich shop or on his bike."

Bateman said that her husband has encountered the president while riding his bike.

"My husband was on the bike trail one day and Biden was in town and all the Secret Service was out there and my husband rode by him on his bike and said, 'Hey Joe, how are you doing? He goes, 'Good; nice day.' I mean, literally, to my husband," she said.

The Anchor Road property boasts access to private beaches and stunning views. "This multi award winning Canal Front house in North Shores was designed to take full advantage of the site and its spectacular perennial views," the listing said.

"Privacy, sustainability and energy efficiency are foremost in its concept. An open floor plan with a variety of indoor and outdoor living spaces make this the perfect getaway for all ages."

The property is two stories, with covered parking. "This home is in move in condition and most furniture is included," according to the listing. "North Shores is a private beach and includes the community pool and tennis courts. The property is Bulkheaded with a Private dock for all your water toys and an extra floating dock for launching your canoes and kayaks."

Bateman said that the area's proximity to Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia is among the home's selling points, and that buyers who would acquire such a property are unlikely to be dissuaded by elevated mortgage rates.

"I don't think the mortgage rates are affecting the properties in this type of price range that much. Typically, the buyer of a property of $4 to $5 million is going to have some means of purchasing it and typically not to go on the open mortgage market," she said.

Another property on the market, a relatively cheaper option that is also near Rehoboth Beach, is 17 Robins Lane. It's a three-bedroom, two-bath home, sitting on 1,456 square feet with a lot size of 0.43 acres. The home is selling for $2.95 million.

"Cherished Family Beach Home, sited on the largest lot (126x150) currently available in the Exclusive Private Community of North Shores in Rehoboth Beach," the listing said.

The property also boasts the exclusivity of North Shores and its accompanying amenities.

"This is a seasonal home, however it has been enhanced with individual mini-splits in all the living spaces and bedrooms offering air conditioning and heat on those cool fall and spring nights," the listing said. "Privileges of living in North Shores include a private and guarded beach, community pool, tennis courts, security, and marina."

Newsweek contacted Barbara Morales, another of the agents listed on Zillow, for comment via email on Monday afternoon.
