Jill Biden 'Breakfast Tacos' Video Viewed 1.7M Times

Jill Biden has faced a backlash after claiming the Latino community in San Antonio, Texas, was as unique as "breakfast tacos" on Monday.

The first lady was making her speech at the UnidosUS 2022 Annual Conference and her comments were not well received by conservatives or the Latino community online.

A clip of the moment has begun circulating on social media and has already been viewed more than 1.7 million times.

Before Biden's blunder, she also praised the leader of the UnidosUS event, Raul Yzaguirre.

"[The Latino community] wants justice and equality, the opportunity to build a better life for your families. It's not only what all families want; it's what all families deserve. But we can't get those things on our own.

"Raul helped build this organization with the understanding that the diversity of this community, as distinct as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the blossoms of Miami, and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio—is your strength."

Newsweek has contacted the White House for comment.

Biden has since been mocked on social media for her comments as well as the mispronunciation of the word "bodegas."

Arizona's Andy Biggs shared the video to his own Twitter page while also mocking Biden and the Democrats.

"Jill Biden says Hispanics are as a 'unique' as tacos and bodegas 'bogidas.' No wonder Hispanics are fleeing the Democratic Party," the Republican representative wrote.

Dr. Mariela Roca, a Republican congressional candidate from Maryland, also took a jab at Biden with her own sarcastic tweet.

"I too have frequented many bogaduhs in New York. I too believe the Hispanic community is as unique as breakfast tacos," she tweeted.

"With this 'Latinx incluxion' conference, it's almost like they're trying to drive Biden's approval rating with Latinos into the ground."

"Jill Biden came to Texas to tell the Hispanic community that we're as 'unique as breakfast tacos," Irene Armendariz-Jackson, the candidate for U.S. Congress District 16 in El Paso, tweeted.

"The fact that someone actually approved her to say that line in her speech and that NO ONE saw an issue with it is wild. They're going to be at 5 percent Hispanic approval rating soon."

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) also released a statement condemning Biden for her remarks.

"Using breakfast tacos to try to demonstrate the uniqueness of Latinos in San Antonio demonstrates a lack of cultural knowledge and sensitivity to the diversity of Latinos in the region," the statement read.

"NAHJ encourages Dr. Biden and her speech writing team to take the time in the future to better understand the complexities of our people and communities.

"We are not tacos.

"Our heritage as Latinos is shaped by a variety of diasporas, cultures and food traditions, and should not be reduced to a stereotype."
