New Video of Jada Pinkett-Smith's Reaction to Will Smith Slap Surfaces

Footage appearing to show Jada Pinkett-Smith's reaction after her husband, Will Smith, slapped Chris Rock across the face at the Oscars has gone viral on social media.

Smith left those in attendance at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles stunned after stepping on stage to strike the comedian across the face over a joke he made about Pinkett-Smith's appearance in which he compared her to the title character from the Demi Moore film G.I. Jane.

The incident sent shockwaves through social media, with any number of memes and viral videos emerging in the wake of the controversy. Now a clip appearing to show the slap from an entirely new angle has surfaced on TikTok and Twitter. The video has piqued the interest of many for giving viewers a closer look at how Pinkett-Smith responded.

The footage first came to light on TikTok, where it was posted by justinunsworth1. It has so far racked up 179,000 views and can be watched here.

The clip was seemingly filmed from just behind where Pinkett-Smith was sitting in the Dolby Theatre and begins immediately after the slap takes place with Smith shown walking back to his seat as the footage begins.

"Here's an angle most people have not seen! Look at Jada's reaction," the on-screen caption reads.

A couple of seconds into the video, Rock can be heard to say "Will Smith just slapped the s***" out of me." His comment is met with uproarious laughter from those in attendance.

Pinkett-Smith, herself, appears to rock forward, suggesting she too is laughing at the quickfire gag. However, the atmosphere quickly changes when Smith begins shouting at Rock to "leave my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth."

Pinkett-Smith can then be seen sitting upright looking back and forth between Smith and Rock as the comedian attempts to explain that it was "a G.I. Jane joke." Smith repeats his expletive-led warning while Pinkett-Smith appears almost motionless, with her gaze fixed on the stage and Rock.

Rock continues on, describing what just unfolded as "the greatest night in the history of television" in a line that draws a laugh from the audience. It draws a reaction from Pinkett-Smith too, who is shown leaning back slightly and patting her hands against her legs.

She continues to look forward as the show continues with Rock moving on to talk about the documentary Oscar he is due to give out. It is worth noting that a cameraman is stood close next to where Smith and Pinkett-Smith are sat throughout the video.

Actor Michael Rapaport , who appeared alongside Smith in Hitch, shared a version of the original video to Twitter where he was vocally critical of Pinkett-Smith's reaction.

"People saying Will Smith was protecting Jada, Why wasn't JADA protecting Will from literally ruining his entire career?" he wrote. "My Wife would've been fighting me before I sat down for making an asshole of myself & our family."

For many of those sharing his tweet, Pinkett-Smith's reaction was a source of some confusion.

JoiKarr tweeted: "Jada laughing at Chris's comments right after the slap makes everything so weird." Crisp_Pratt saw things differently, writing: "It seems she's not even looking at Will when he was yelling which tells me that she was both shocked and ashamed by his behavior."

Mrserinacosta agreed with Rapaport, commenting: "I would have been making him sit down too if he was doing something like this couldn't agree more"

Cuteasebutton87 felt "this isn't a good look on Jada either with Gillian Rightford writing: "I'm a bit perplexed. She laughed? I wouldn't have been happy one bit if that was my husband throwing his name down the toilet so publicly, even if '"in my defense."'

On TikTok, geny_095 accused Pinkett-Smith of "hypocrisy" for "laughing while Chris Rock is being humiliated on national TV." Chaoscoordinator_100 commented: "Why is Jada laughing and not even looking at Will when he's screaming?! I would be freaking out."

Another user, posting as tiktokratingsservice, meanwhile, suggested Pinkett-Smith was laughing "because she didn't know it was real" and that only became apparent to her when Smith began shouting.

The footage came to light hours after another video showing Chris Rock appearing stunned in the aftermath of the slap began gaining traction on social media.
