Instagram Stories Glitch Explained as Meta Works to Fix Problem

Instagram users have noticed a glitch on the platform that causes stories to repeat and start over, with thousands of people taking to Twitter and Reddit to report the issue.

The issue seems to be affecting numerous users and Instagram's parent company Meta has confirmed it is aware of the situation.

For many users, the bug seems to be that the platform is making them rewatch all of a person's stories before they can move on to the next one.

"Why Instagram making me view the same stories 100 times," read one tweet with almost 50,000 likes.

Another added: "Is anyone else's Instagram making them rewatch the whole of peoples Instagram stories everytime they put a new one up."

Another popular complaint reads: "anyone elses instagram stories being weird?? i keep having to view the same ones i ALREADY VIEWED!!! its pissing me off omfg."

Another joked: "if I have to watch over these Instagram stories one more time."

Meanwhile, on Reddit, one Instagram user asked: "does anyone else have this issue where someone posts a new story and you click on it to watch it and it sends you back to the very first story they posted and not the new one? lol it's annoying i hope it gets fixed soon."

To which one response reads: "Been happening to me since yesterday morning and I can't find anything about the reason behind it or how to fix it. Glad that it isn't just me though. I agree it's super annoying."

Despite the annoying glitch, Meta appears to be working on it and a spokesperson has apologized for the inconvenience.

Instagram is "aware that some people are having trouble accessing Instagram Stories," spokesperson Christine Pai told The Verge, adding that they are "working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."

The bug appears to be caused by Instagram not remembering where a user last viewed another user's story, according to The Verge.

Some Reddit users report experiencing this bug since Monday and it is unclear exactly how many people have been affected.

Many are speculating that a new update to the platform could have created the glitch.

"Apparently everyone has it! it's just an update! waiting for a new one for bugs to be fixed," a Redditor wrote.

This inconvenient Instagram bug comes as Microsoft is set to retire its iconic web browser Internet Explorer after nearly 30 years.
