Golden Retriever's Ritual When Owner's in the Bath Has Internet in Stitches

Having a bath is supposed to be a relaxing time to enjoy by yourself, but one rescue dog disagrees, delivering items to her owner whenever she's trying to unwind.

In a hilarious TikTok video (@dogs.just.wanta.have.fun), Joy Kauffman, 47, shows the moment her quiet oasis was ruined by Lucy, a golden retriever and Labrador mix. Despite her owner's attempt to enjoy some peace and quiet, Lucy was excited to bring her all the things she knew she'd love at that moment, including a blanket and a paper plate.

This has been a habit of Lucy's, who started doing it very soon after she was rescued last year. Kauffman, who lives in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, has become accustomed to her bath times being interrupted. She told Newsweek that Lucy has to bring her gifts "at least once a week."

The clip has delighted many, with over 1.1 million views and more than 185,400 likes on TikTok in just days.

"If I leave the bathroom door open, then she brings me socks, trash, cat toysbecause she loves taking the cat's things," Kauffman said. "She brings me just about anything she can get hold of. My favorite delivery was a Cheez Whiz jar one time.

"Usually, she won't drop them in the bathtub because she's just so excited to have it herself, so she doesn't want to let it go," she said.

There's no doubt that Lucy loves the water, which may come as no surprise given her breed. The American Kennel Club lists retrievers and Labradors among the best breeds when it comes to swimming. These breeds are naturals in the water and can happily spend all day splashing around.

Unsurprisingly, Lucy loves all water, whether it's a warm bath or a muddy puddle.

Kauffman said: "She will even get into the bath with me sometimes. In the video, I'm actually having to push her back because she was about to climb into the tub."

One thing retrievers and Labradors aren't so good at understanding is personal space. Lucy certainly doesn't understand when her owner wants to be by herself and doesn't want to receive, say, a used paper plate (an easy mistake to make).

But after rescuing her last year, Kauffman is just so happy to see Lucy being her playful self now that she's found her forever home.

"When we got Lucy, she didn't come from a great place. She was stuck in a room and had never seen the outside until we got her. She didn't know anything about being a dog or even what grass was. Now, though, she enjoys every little thing she possibly can, and she's always happy," Kauffman said.

The social media reaction has been extremely positive, and Kauffman loves sharing her cheeky pup with the world. Among the 1,100 comments on the post, one person wrote: "Her little face!! So proud."

Another user joked: "Well since you're washing things, here's some laundry and dishes."

Another comment reads: "She's like, one of these gifts will surely be enough to get me invited into the bath."
