Foster Dog's Strategy to Avoid Sleeping in Crate Branded Award-Worthy

A video of a foster dog pretending to be asleep, all to avoid going into her crate, has left the internet in hysterics—and her owner told Newsweek it's all because she's "super intelligent."

The viral video, which has been viewed more than 12,000 times since it was first shared to TikTok on November 29, filmed the Ruby the dog faking a deep snooze on top of her daybed.

"My foster dog pretending she's asleep so that she doesn't have to go to her crate," the dog's owner, Caitlyn Cohrs, shared in the post.

"Ruby is my second foster and I have been crate rotating her to help everyone adjust, and eventually do slow introductions," Cohrs told Newsweek.

"Our nightly routine is to cuddle on the couch, watch television or read before she goes up to her room and crate for the evening."

"On that evening, she saw me looking at her, then closed her eyes and started snoring. She's a super intelligent pup and knows how to play on my heart strings! I don't think it was a coincidence. She knows that I won't bother her when she's snoozing and that I will wait for her to get up before heading upstairs for bed," she added.

Cohrs, who manages the TikTok account the post had been shared to @hi.im.tatertot, has cared for dogs for years.

"Tater tot, who I call Tate, is my first rescue dog. He completely changed by life for the better and inspired me to start fostering dogs last year. That's when I adopted my first foster," she added.

Cohrs, who lives in North Carolina and works as a bartender, has three dogs at the moment, Tate, Ruby and Pea. She told Newsweek that she sometimes abbreviates her name to Cait because it rhymes with Tate.
