Donald Trump Could Have Florida Street Named After Him

Florida may soon have a street named after former President Donald Trump following a rally the Republican held in a suburb of Miami on Wednesday during the third GOP primary debate.

Trump held the event in Hialeah, Florida, where Mayor Esteban "Steve" Bovo announced his intention to name a street after the 45th president in the heavily Republican community.

The former president's rally took place not far from the third Republican primary debate in Miami where his rivals for the GOP's 2024 presidential nomination took to the stage.

Trump has so far declined to attend the primary debates and continues to enjoy a substantial lead over his Republican opponents in recent polling.

Trump has 56.5 percent support from Republicans in the GOP primary, according to FiveThirtyEight's aggregate of recent polls. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis follows, with 13.9 percent. No other candidates are polling in double digits.

Mayor Bovo told the crowd at the Ted Hendricks Stadium in Hialeah that he would ask the city council to rename a street after Trump.

"How honored we were, that we were gonna do right by you because you've always kept your promises to the residents of this great nation and we're appreciative," Bovo said.

"And I will be asking next week, the city council of Hialeah—and some of the members of the city council are here with us today, our council president is here, our other council members are here—and I will be asking them to be able to authorize and vote affirmatively as we name the street after you, Donald Trump Way."

Bovo also presented Trump with a mocked-up street sign saying: "President Donald J. Trump Avenue"—a name which differs from the proposed name of the street in Hialeah.

Following cheers from the crowd, Trump said: "That's an honor."

The city council's next meeting is due to take place on Tuesday, November 14, according to a report from The Miami Herald, and there will be a resolution asking that Palm Avenue be renamed in Trump's honor.

Hialeah does not currently have any streets named after a U.S. president, the newspaper reported, but there is a library named after the late President John F. Kennedy, a Democrat.

Trump's Wednesday rally was aimed at the Cuban-American community in Hialeah, which is also a strongly Republican city.

The event was also a form of counter-programming to the GOP debate, which took place simultaneously at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami.

Trump began speaking about 20 minutes after the debate started.

"I'm standing in front of tens of thousands of people right now and it's on television. That's a lot harder to do than a debate," the former president said.

The stadium where the event took place has a capacity of about 5,200.
